Jared Golden (D) is the current representative for Maine's 2nd congressional district (ME-02), first elected in 2018.
Previously, Jared Golden was elected twice and served two full terms in the Maine House of Representatives, as the Democratic Assistant Majority Leader (aka Whip). There, Jared was first elected in 2014; he represented House District 60 (part of Lewiston, a blue collar, working class community city). In the Maine state legislature, Jared sponsored a bill to make it easier for firefighters, police officers, and EMT’s to access workers’ compensation benefits for work-related post-traumatic stress diagnoses. Jared also successfully advocated for increased funding and much needed changes to state assistance programs for veterans.
Jared Golden is a veteran (4 years in Marine Corps) of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. After serving, he returned to Maine and earned his bachelors from Bates College (using veterans benefits).
Upon graduation, Jared Golden volunteered in Afghanistan as a teacher. In 2011, Jared accepted a position on the U.S. Senate Homeland Security Committee as a professional staff member for Senator Susan Collins. He also served as a legislative aide for Democrats in the State House.
Jared Golden is a strong Democrat who is fighting for Mainers to earn a livable wage. He is strong on expanding educational opportunities for all ages, and helping veterans build careers and successful lives after service. He is committed to encouraging civility and positive outlook in Maine.
In the 2018 election cycle, Jared Golden was endorsed by the Professional Fire Fighters of Maine, VoteVets, the Lewiston Democratic City Committee and 28 of his colleagues in the Maine State House and Senate who are within the ME-02 congressional district.
Jared Golden is from Lewiston, Maine where he now lives with his wife Isobel.
