Elissa Slotkin earned her bachelors degree from Cornell Univ. and her masters degree from Columbia Univ (NYC). 9/11 attacks happened during her first week in NYC, which set Elissa's course and let her to join the intelligence community and work to prevent future terrorist attacks against the US. Within a year of joining the CIA, she became Middle East analyst and soon deployed to Baghdad and served alongside US soldiers and diplomats. She served 3 tours in Iraq over a span of five years. Until January 2017, she oversaw policy at the Pentagon on Russia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, as Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense.
Elissa Slotkin is a third generation Michigander who grew up on a farm in Holly, Michigan where she now lives with her husband Dave Slotkin -- a veteran who retired as a Colonel after 30 years in the U.S. Army. Elissa has two daughters from her marriage to Dave; one a veteran and another a doctor.
Elissa Slotkin is a strong public servant. In the 2018 election cycle, she was endorsed by her former colleague Ben Rhodes (President Obama's foreign policy advisor and speech writer), and several members of Congress.
