Hon. Rep. Val Demings has been the House Rep for CD10 since January 2017. She is a member of the U.S. House Intelligence and Judiciary committees.

Val Demings was born into a poor family with seven kids, her dad an organge grove worker and mom a house keeper, and grew up in a neighborhood of Jacksonville. She went to segregated schools in the 1960s, earned her BS degree in Criminology from Florida State University.

Val Demings first worked as a social worker in school, then as Orlando Police Department (OPD) patrol, then became OPD's Chief in 2007, in which role she is credited with reducing violence crimes in Orlando. She retired from the position in June 2011 after 27 years with OPD. She was first elected to Congress in 2016 after initial try in 2012.

Val Demings is married to Jerry Demings, mayor of Orange County FL and they have four children. Val Demings is a strong Democrat.

I'm not sure I want the job as much as the job may want me. And I say that because I think that people are chosen, I believe, at certain times to address certain things. And if we look at what is going on in our country right now ... I know what discrimination feels like, I know what racism feels like, because I have been subjected to it.
