Texas 6th congressional district is VACANT with the passing of Rep. Wright (R). A special election is coming in 2021! Let us turn this seat blue!
Jana Lynne Sanchez grew up in Maypearl, Midlothian and Waxahachie (all in Ellis County, TX). She is the grandchild of migrant farmworkers who settled in the suburbs of Waxahachie in the 1950's; her undocumented migrant grandpa became US Citizen in 1969. Her dad (one of 27 children) had little formal education, also grew up in Waxahachie.
Jana earned her Bachelors (Political Science) from Rice Univ on scholarships and financial aid, student loans, work-study jobs and family support. She worked as a state-wide fundraiser for local candidates in California and managed political campaigns in Alabama. Then, she became a journalist, writing on food and travel for the Baltimore Sun, later as a foreign correspondent for Reuters in Amsterdam. In 2005, Jana co-founded CitySavvy, an award-winning financial and corporate communications consultancy with offices in London and Amsterdam. She returned to hometown in TX in 2014, where she worships at the St.Paul's Episcopal Church.
Jana ran for TX-06 in 2018 and gained 45.5% of the votes vs. Rep. Ron Wright, a narrowing of the margin from prior races. She supported the Democratic candidate who ran in 2020.
Jana serves on the Dean's Advisory Board for the School of Social Services at Rice University. She is an aspiring songwriter, singer and guitarist, and is involved in progressive political causes in Texas.
We are counting on grassroots supporters like you to power Jana Lynne Sanchez to victory.
I’m running for Congress because we need to get Washington working for all North Texans for a change. For far too long, special interests and the well-connected have called the shots, leaving working people behind. As we work to recover from the pandemic and distribute the life-saving vaccine, people should come first.
