William Lawrence is a Mid-Michigan organizer, housing advocate, and coalition-builder running to represent Michigan’s 7th Congressional District.

Raised in East Lansing and a graduate of East Lansing High School, Will now lives in Lansing with his wife. His career has been rooted in organizing around the issues that directly affect working families—from housing and homelessness to jobs, healthcare, energy costs, and the power large corporations hold over local communities.

Will began his career organizing around climate change and the creation of good-paying clean-energy jobs. As a founder of Sunrise Movement, he helped build a national organization that pushed for major federal investments in clean energy and manufacturing, including investments that reached communities across Michigan.

In recent years, Will has focused increasingly on Michigan’s housing crisis. He co-founded the Michigan Rent Is Too Damn High Coalition, which has fought for protections for renters and more affordable housing, and the Mid-Michigan Tenant Resource Center, which has helped families avoid homelessness and remain in their homes.

That local organizing work shapes the campaign he is running for Congress today.

Will’s priorities include:

• lowering the cost of housing, healthcare, energy, and everyday necessities
• protecting Social Security and making wealthy Americans pay more into the system
• expanding affordable housing and cracking down on corporate landlord price-gouging
• guaranteeing access to healthcare
• protecting Michigan’s water, farmland, wildlife, and natural resources
• placing a federal moratorium on new data centers while communities assess their effects on electricity, water, and land use
• holding corporate polluters accountable
• banning stock trading by members of Congress and senior executive-branch officials
• protecting constitutional rights and restoring accountability in government

Will’s campaign is built around a simple idea: Mid-Michigan families should have more power over the decisions that affect their communities than billionaires, corporations, and political insiders.

He has spent years organizing locally, helping families stay housed, and building coalitions around issues that cross traditional political lines.

Now he’s running for Congress to bring that same approach to Washington and to make sure the people who live and work in Mid-Michigan have a stronger voice than the powerful interests trying to shape their future.
