Peggy Flanagan is Minnesota’s Lieutenant Governor, a former state legislator and school board member, and a longtime advocate for children and working families running for the United States Senate.
Peggy grew up in St. Louis Park with a single mother and knows firsthand what it means for a family to rely on public programs to stay afloat. Section 8 housing helped keep a roof over their heads. SNAP helped put food on the table. Childcare assistance helped her mother work. Medicaid covered Peggy’s healthcare as she struggled with severe asthma.
Those experiences shaped the work she has spent her career doing.
Peggy is Ojibwe and a member of the White Earth Nation. At age 25, she became the youngest member of the Minneapolis School Board, where she fought to expand educational opportunity for children from every background.
She later served as executive director of the Children’s Defense Fund–Minnesota, where she advocated for children and families and helped lead the coalition that successfully raised Minnesota’s minimum wage.
Peggy was elected to the Minnesota House in 2015 and went on to serve as Lieutenant Governor beginning in 2019. In statewide office, she has helped advance paid family and medical leave, investments in public education, healthcare and housing, support for family farms and small businesses, and protections for reproductive freedom.
Now she is running for the U.S. Senate to:
- lower costs and build an economy that works for working families
- protect Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and retirement security
- defend reproductive freedom nationwide
- strengthen paid leave and support for parents and caregivers
- expand access to affordable healthcare
- protect workers and take on corporate special interests
- ban congressional stock trading and reduce the influence of dark money in politics
- defend voting rights and democratic institutions
- honor federal treaty and trust responsibilities to Tribal Nations
- strengthen support for veterans and servicemembers
- protect Minnesotans from federal overreach and abuses of power
Peggy’s campaign is grounded in a simple belief: families should have a fair shot at building a stable life, and government should help create opportunity rather than make it harder to get ahead.
She has spent her career fighting for children, families, workers, and communities across Minnesota.
Now she’s running to bring that fight to the United States Senate.
Flanagan’s campaign priorities emphasize a fair economy, Social Security and Medicare, reproductive rights, democracy and ethics reform, Tribal responsibilities, veterans, and immigration and federal accountability.
