Amy Klobuchar

Amy Jean Klobuchar was born on May 25, 1960, in Plymouth, Minnesota, and raised in a middle-class family rooted in Minnesota’s civic and journalistic traditions. Her father was a longtime columnist for the Minneapolis Star Tribune, and her mother was a teacher — influences that instilled in her a strong respect for public service, fairness, and accountability. Klobuchar earned her undergraduate degree from Yale University and her law degree from the University of Chicago Law School. She began her career as an attorney in Minnesota before entering public service, where she built a reputation as a tough, effective advocate for consumers and working families.

In 1998, Klobuchar was elected Hennepin County Attorney, becoming the first woman to hold the office. There, she focused on protecting public safety, cracking down on corporate crime, and strengthening victim advocacy. In 2006, she was elected to the U.S. Senate, where she has served for nearly two decades, winning statewide elections by wide margins and becoming one of Minnesota’s most trusted political leaders. In the Senate, Klobuchar built a national reputation as a pragmatic problem-solver who delivers results — working across party lines to lower prescription-drug prices, strengthen infrastructure, support farmers, protect consumers, and defend democracy. In 2025, she announced her campaign for Governor of Minnesota, seeking to bring her experience, steady leadership, and Minnesota-first values home to lead the state forward.
