Candidate Profile

Allison Jaslow

NC-03

Allison Jaslow

Allison Jaslow is an Iraq War veteran, seasoned public servant, and leading advocate for veterans’ rights and working families running to represent North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Born into a working-class, union household, Jaslow turned a childhood marked by personal hardship — including losing her father to alcoholism as a teenager — into a lifelong commitment to service and justice. She earned an ROTC scholarship and joined the U.S. Army, where she served two combat tours in Iraq during the height of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, ultimately achieving the rank of Captain and earning a Bronze Star Medal among other honors for her leadership under fire.

After her military service, Jaslow dedicated herself to public service and civic leadership in Washington and beyond, serving on Capitol Hill, in the Obama White House, and in senior roles advocating for veterans and their families. She is the former Chief Executive Officer of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) — the nation’s largest post-9/11 veterans organization — where she was the first woman and first openly gay veteran to lead the group and a leading voice calling for fixes to the VA, an end to the veteran suicide crisis, and a restored congressional War Powers role.

Now, Jaslow is running for Congress in NC-03, a district newly redrawn as a more competitive battleground, to bring her leadership, service experience, and commitment to everyday people to Washington. She is focused on lowering costs for families, expanding healthcare access, defending democratic norms, and delivering results for the people of eastern North Carolina.

Key Issue Stances & Priorities

  • Lowering Costs & Strengthening the Middle Class: Jaslow emphasizes the need to make life more affordable for families coping with rising healthcare, housing, and everyday costs.

  • Defending Democracy & Voting Rights: She champions free and fair elections, protecting voting access, and pushing back against anti-democratic forces and extremism in Washington.
  • Economic Opportunity & Worker Protections: Jaslow backs policies that grow good-paying jobs, strengthen worker rights, and ensure economic opportunity across NC-03.

  • Veterans Advocacy Leadership: Former CEO of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, where she led national efforts to improve care and support for post-9/11 veterans.
  • Policy and Communications Experience: Worked on Capitol Hill, in the Obama White House, and as a senior strategist and advisor across public policy and veterans’ legal clinics.
  • National Spokesperson: Established as a prominent national voice on the military-civilian divide, women veterans’ issues, and civic engagement.
  • Competitive Battleground Candidate: Running in a newly shaped NC-03 providing an opportunity to flip a seat held by Republicans for decades.

This time demands that every American who’s willing to step up and lead in this moment, does.
