Brian Poindexter

OH-07

Brian Poindexter

Brian Poindexter is a union ironworker, apprenticeship instructor, father, and Brook Park City Councilman running to represent Ohio’s 7th Congressional District.

Brian grew up in Cleveland as one of six children in a working-class union family. His father was a union machinist, his grandfather was a union autoworker, and from an early age he learned what a steady paycheck, good benefits, and the dignity of work can mean for a family.

He followed that path into the trades.

Brian completed an Ironworkers apprenticeship while earning an associate degree in Applied Industrial Technology from Cuyahoga Community College. He went on to spend years working as a union ironworker on major projects across Northeast Ohio, including construction at Playhouse Square, Morton Salt, and NASA Glenn Research Center.

He also spent time as a union organizer, helping other workers gain the wages, protections, and benefits that union membership provided his own family.

Today, Brian serves as an apprenticeship instructor with Ironworkers Local 17, training the next generation of skilled tradespeople and helping young workers build stable careers.

His commitment to working families also led him into public service. Brian was elected to Brook Park City Council in 2017, where he has advocated for public schools, workers’ rights, community services, and policies that strengthen local families.

He is running for Congress to:

  • lower the cost of housing, groceries, healthcare, energy, and everyday necessities
  • protect workers’ right to organize and strengthen unions
  • create more good-paying jobs in the skilled trades
  • protect Social Security, Medicare, and retirement security
  • make healthcare more affordable and less dependent on employment
  • strengthen American manufacturing and stop rewarding corporations for shipping jobs overseas
  • invest in apprenticeship programs and workforce training
  • support public schools and strong local communities
  • hold corporations accountable when they put profits ahead of workers

Brian believes working people should not be an afterthought in Washington.

He has spent his life alongside the people who build, repair, manufacture, teach, transport, and keep Northeast Ohio running.

Now he’s running for Congress to make sure working families finally have someone at the table who understands their lives because he has lived them too.

I’m Brian Poindexter - I’m a union ironworker, and I’m running for Congress because working people's lives keep getting harder and harder while billionaires keep getting richer and richer.

Washington isn't making it any easier.

I'm ready to fight back. Are you?
