David Crowley is Milwaukee County Executive, a former state legislator, and a lifelong Wisconsin public servant running for Governor to build a state where working families can afford to live, raise their children, and get ahead.
David grew up in Milwaukee in a family that knew what it meant to struggle. His father worked as an electrician and his mother worked in the service industry while both battled addiction and mental health challenges. As a child, David experienced housing instability, utility shutoffs, and food insecurity firsthand.
Those experiences shaped both his politics and his approach to leadership.
David began his career as a community organizer before serving in the Wisconsin State Assembly, where he worked on housing, criminal justice reform, and reproductive freedom. He later became Milwaukee County Executive, leading one of the largest local governments in Wisconsin and serving roughly one-sixth of the state’s population.
As County Executive, David has focused on practical results. His administration has expanded affordable housing, strengthened public health, invested in public safety, delivered tax relief, modernized county government, and helped secure a historic bipartisan agreement that stabilized Milwaukee’s finances while increasing resources for communities across Wisconsin.
Now David is running for governor with a plan built around three priorities: Affordability, Care, and Opportunity.
His agenda includes:
- building and preserving more affordable housing across rural, suburban, and urban Wisconsin
- lowering energy costs and ensuring large corporate energy users pay their fair share
- expanding access to BadgerCare and strengthening rural healthcare
- making childcare more affordable and accessible
- investing in public schools and closing the special-education funding gap
- expanding apprenticeships, technical education, and earn-and-learn career pathways
- raising wages and restoring workers’ collective-bargaining rights
- supporting small businesses and local entrepreneurs
- protecting reproductive freedom and LGBTQ+ rights
- investing in roads, broadband, transit, and connected communities
- strengthening services for seniors and people with disabilities
- protecting voting rights and restoring trust in government
David believes Wisconsin’s next governor should understand both what families are going through and how to make government deliver results.
From his own childhood experiences to his record leading Milwaukee County, he has built his career around a simple idea: the people closest to the challenges should be closest to the solutions.
He’s running for governor to bring that approach statewide and build a Wisconsin where every family has access to the basics they need—and the opportunity to build something better.
